This wing conducts about 20
routine surveys at various places for the
Harbour Engineering Department and the Port
Department every year. In addition to the
above, this wing collects the tide data at
various places throughout the Kerala coast
as requested by the National Institute of
Oceanography, Cochin, on payment basis.
The Hydrographic Survey Wing possesses the
following most modern survey equipments
i. Single & Dual frequency Echo Sounders
ii. Differential Global Positioning Systems
iii. Total Stations and Automatic levels
iv. Hydrographic Software
v. Automatic Tide gauges.
vi. Cartographic Software etc.
The wing have 4 sea going survey boats ,3
numbers of OBM fitted Dinghies and other
infrastructure facilities. This Wing is
capable of taking up all Hydrographic
Investigations on all water masses such as
Sea, Ports and Harbours, estuaries, lagoons,
inland water transport canals, reservoirs,
lakes etc. The results of the investigations
are presented in the form of digital chart.

Past Activities
This Wing is executing Hydrographic Surveys
of Fishery Harbours and fish landing centers
through Kerala for its construction and
maintenances. The Wing had carried out
Hydrographic Surveys of Peechi Dam Reservoir
including its upstream and tributaries for
Kerala Engineering Research Institutre
(KERI), Neyyar Dam Reservoir for Kerala
Water Authority, Malampuzha Dam Reservoir
for Kerala Water Resources Development and
Management (KWRDM), Hydrographic survey work
of Chamapakara Canal extending from Thevara
ferry to Ambalamughal for (FACT) and
hydrographic survey of Edappallikkotta water
lake for Hindustan Petroleum Limited. The
Hydrographic Survey of Inland Navigation
Canal from Kotti to Kottappuram (35 km) and
the Hydrographic investigations in the
Tsunami affected area in the coastal region
extending from Thangassery to Thottappally
(50 Km) are the prestigious work conducted
for Kerala irrigation department and CESS
respectively. The wing had conducted a
number of surveys in the National Waterway-
III for Kerala State Maritime Development
Corporation in the Cochin area in connection
with dredging and maintenance. Pre dredging
survey at Tutucorin Fishing Harbour for
Tutucorin Port Trust and at Mahe for
Pondicherry Government were also the
prestigious works conducted by this Wing.
